Neurophysiological testing

Services

Clinical neurophysiology is a medical speciality that studies the central and peripheral nervous system through the recording of bio-electrical activity, whether spontaneous or stimulated. Clinical neurophysiology is used as a diagnostic tool to assist the medical community in diagnosing specific diseases and conditions.

Sleep Studies

Diagnostic tool for obstructive, central and mixed sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome, periodic leg movement syndrome and insomnia.
In Hospital Polysomnography
Home Based Sleep Studies

CPAPs

Treatment of sleep apnea.
CPAP titration
BiPAP titration

All EEGs

Classification of epilepsy and non-specific cerebral abnormalities.
Routine EEG
Sleep EEG
ICU EEG
Neonatal EEG
Long term 8 - 16 hour EEG
Long term 16 - 24 hour EEG
Evoked Potentials (ABR/SSEP/VEP)
Intra-operative monitoring

NCS

Nerve Conduction Studies - Evaluation of peripheral nerves or nerve entrapment.

DO YOU

SNORE

You might have obstructive sleep apnea (OSA): Obstructive Sleep Apnea is a potentially life-threatening breathing disorder that occurs during sleep. The upper airway repeatedly collapses, causing pauses in breathing (apnea) or inadequate breathing (hypopnea) and sleep fragmentation.

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF OSA

  • Snoring, interrupted by pauses in breathing
  • Excessive daytime sleepiness
  • Depression
  • Morning headaches
  • Hypertension
  • Gasping or choking during sleep
  • Restless sleep
  • Intellectual deterioration
  • Poor judgement or concentration
  • Irritability & Sexual dysfunction

HOW IS OSA DIAGNOSED?

An overnight diagnostic sleep study, known as a polysomnogram or PSG, is used to determine the type and severity of the sleep disorder, as well as determining the appropriate treatment.

BENEFITS OF CONTINUOUS USE

  • Elimination of snoring and abnormal breathing events.
  • Absence of daytime drowsiness or fatigue.
  • Improved quality of life.
  • Reduction or elimination of comorbidities such as hypertension.
  • Decreased consumption of health care resources.

IF OSA IS LEFT UNTREATED

  • Hypertension
  • Motor-vehicle and work related accidents
  • Cardiac arrhythmias due to drowsiness
  • Myocardial Ischemia
  • Decreased quality of life
  • Myocardial infarction

HOW DO YOU TREAT OSA

CPAP treats obstructive sleep apnea by providing a gentle flow of positive airway pressure via a mask. The positive airway pressure splints the airway open during sleep to prevent airway collapse. This results in the elimination of snoring and abnormal breathing and prevents daytime drowsiness or fatigue.
